Thus always to Tyrants Boothian Politics You all deserve to die Sic Semper Tyrannis These are your just desserts The wages of your sins Oh let me show your faith Sic Semper Tyrannis As we finished our session He wiped the Bolsonaro from my chin Notes: 'Sic semper Tyrannis' (Thus, always, to tyrants) is apparently what John WIlkes Booth said when he shot Abraham Lincoln. It is also said to have been the slogan on the t-shirt worn by Timothy McVeigh on the day of his arrest. Most people would agree that Booth's assassination of Lincoln was misguided, to say the very least. Yet many people would also agree on some level that tyrants should be dealt with harshly. Similarly, virtually no one sane would defend McVeigh's most infamous actions. Yet many would agree that people have a point when they observe - as he did - that the brutal cost of many international actions is repugnantly high. We're not endorsing anything here. These are just descriptive facts. A different, more modern response to tyrants was suggested a few years ago by the coining of the word 'Santorum': Mockery. Accordingly, when acerbic comedian Frankie Boyle recently asked on social media for a word which could be used to describe Brazil's far-right leader Jair Bolsonaro, one of the suggestions was to change the question slightly and make 'Bolsonaro' a word for something which would repel and thus mock O Presidente. The example offered was 'And as fe finished our gagging session, he wiped the Bolsonaro from my chin'.

Who are you to judge, you arrogant, clueless fool? We know in our hearts you lie And we won't accept your rules Everything is sex Trust instinct for the truth A pig with cocks in its eyes Masturbating to the end of the world Tell me of the bastards (as my fingers probe the ditch) Tell me of the wastrels (that I may stroke and twitch) Tell me of the have-nots (spritz deinen Saft in mein Gesicht) Tell me of my fellow man (flowing forth in orgasmic bliss) We do not need facts You cannot tell us truths Seething onanistic torment The thrusting force of youth

Notes: Some things may be captured in words, but can only be expressed in a Dionysian ecstasy of loathing. Sharing those words would detract from that expression.
In time and motion, in lines and rows In sacred figures, to-do list grows Cello exclusion, in feudal choice In complete absence of human growth Feeding the death machine Worshipping banality Children of the obscene Tell them that it's all a game An unperson of fear We vermin of the tears Castrated by events I'm just an architect With facts and figures, in serried graves Accountancy's care, paperwork grows Playing for platforms, overheard throes In railed stables, professional Feeding the death machine Worshipping banality Spreadsheets of the obscene It's just a fucking game An unperson of fear (we are no one) We vermin of the tears (and we cry) Castrated by events (in the details, it makes sense) I'm just an architect (we just do as we are told, we just do what we must)

They say you can't bear freedom But we know you feel it's right You are unique because of our shared purpose Which they all lack, decadent wasters of life Turn your eyes towards the sun See the future beckon us We can take the world as one In our destiny, we trust Let nothing stand in our way And let nothing us dismay So now summon up your blood We were born to rise above Fiat ars - pereat mundus We do not require participation Let anomie breed alienation Then in an orgasm of aesthetic spectacle Clamor for your own enslavement Turn your eyes towards the sun See the future beckon us We can take the world as one In our destiny, we trust Let nothing stand in our way And let nothing us dismay So now summon up your blood We were born to rule the world

A pointless society necessarily consumes itself Lacking an exterior goal, circularity assumes its place Singularity, leaving human intelligence behind Rapacious decadence, usher in the post human age A new feudal age Don't even understand the phenomenon to be replaced Yet an ill-understood emergent phenomenon is still embraced Like a parody of a fucking clown, dancing to a circus tune The least funny in history Notes: Decadence: Human society is pointless, therefore consumes itself, in a never ending cycle of consumption and discarding. On the other hand, the 'Singularity' is (or at least can roughly be read as) the anticipated point at which artificial intelligence will overtake human intelligence, leading to the end of society as we know it, and the beginning of something else which we cannot now foresee. This itself can be a form of decadence, since it represents a culture producing an event which consumes that culture. A parallel is drawn to a growing sense that we live in an essentially feudal society - what happens to the world is ever more determined by the desires and whims of a small number of specific powerful individuals. The mention of clowns and circuses is partly a play on Ray Kurzweil's name (see Kurt Weil), but it is also a reference to the fact that all the bells, whistles, showmanship, noise and flashing lights in the world cannot cover up the fact that we have no understanding whatsoever of how AI could manifest the most basic thing we have - human emotion. Even if it did, we couldn't know that it had, because we don't even understand what human consciousness is. So a species which does not know what it itself even is at the most fundamental level, which has created a society which functions in ways it cannot control, is making itself obsolete via the will of a tiny number of specific powerful individuals. Wonderful. What could go wrong?

Moralistic Deserve to suffer Punish them Justice Requires it Self evident Punish them Notes: There is a common idea that punishment for committing a crime is deserved. An Eye for an Eye, a Tooth for a Tooth. Yet justice understood in this way, wrote philosopher Richard Garner recently, 'sounds like a sadistic accountant's revenge fantasy'. In 2015 the president of Malaysia, who is - as bizarre as it may sound - a fan of Napalm Death, received a personal open letter appeal from the band's frontman Barney to show mercy in the case of a British woman who had been caught smuggling drugs (reportedly against her will), and who faced execution. When we heard about this and looked it up, the first information we found was on the website of a reactionary newspaper, well known in the UK. Contrasting with Barney's humanistic appeal, we scrolled down and read some of the user comments. Many people say 'Never read the comments!', but that would miss out on so much that is quintessentially human. People can be so endearing. Sometimes you just want to vomit blood on them. The comments were every bit as compassionate as you'd expect. So we made an audio collage of readings of them and put it in the background of the song - it's layered up to the point of being incomprehensible, but those of you wgo read this will know what you're hearing. Essentially, it's a condensed, pathetic form of the Two Minutes of Hate. As far was we know now in early 2020, the woman in question remains on Death Row.
