Part 1: Entering Polaris (instrumental) Part 2: Melancholy Sky – A Rain of Centuries Gentle reminders of walking on air Wisps in a wistful age Talking about senses, it’s high time we shared The infinities on our minds Nigh, all things I dread The reapers arrive I’ve to realize I live beyond my years Burrowing through borrowed time Mine’s a greater guise, a melding of memories Shrieking through the exosphere of worlds aware their end is here ‘Neath tortured stars And as we rise again, I dub thee Resurgam It’s where we commence No I won’t delay, the future starts today None shall inhibit my flight The yonder awaits I will remember the empathy we shared Bogged down in breathless earth Talking about senses, how acute are yours Through the eager accretion of years? I am sown back to life In the fire of spheres Time to realize I’m too far from home And missing all that made me whole Drawn to energies only the star-crossed know The vibrancy of vacuum states; vastnesses where wonder waits In vaults of sky Part 3: ‘Neath Tortured Stars (instrumental)

Welcome to a gray day on the sunless side of me A place where I never learned to fly Waiting for sullen clouds to clear For you to swoop down out of the sky A lifetime I’d give to live one more day In wait for a wider way to walk To somewhere a skyborn just may To a wingless soul belong Hold on How do I begin to tell you of where I’ve been? Ghosts I gathered, the sable shores I have seen Here we’ll remain, locked in flight, my sweet Selene O’er the fields of gold

So our lives are rent by the fire in the sky By the treason of the Nine Swept wayward as the world turns to ashes again A funeral pyre I’ll take no less than to what the gods might aspire In these seasons of plague Our ships lie burning in the bay and an armada’s on its way As flames rise higher Flying from the villages, driven and all but insane Is it all of them or just me? We bow to the fire within All thoughts inside my head find their way to extremes Run as you may from a fiery fate and into a watery grave Wrench the wheels of the watch as you will Turn they do only one way We bow to the fire within Existence on a whim we redeem Carpe Diem We grow to the tune of Dis All the ails inside my head fly away and leave me be Today’s a good day

We play hide-and-seek in helium fields And speak without a sound The Grand Cycle of all things our merry-go-round Ours is a playground unbound We slingshot around the Milky Way On our way to Andromeda or some place further away It’s but a question of Time Godspeed to you in everything you do And safe returns again Godspeed to you wherever you may go And hold your heading true So we set our dials to Godspeed And watch the world grow old As we converse with the quasars The speed of light a laughing matter And matter but a question of light and speed Godspeed to you in everything you do And safe returns again Godspeed to you wherever you may walk I know we’ll pull through Now I’m not afraid to deal with these feelings ‘Cause I’d rather go today than I would tomorrow Even in the dusk of day there still shines a sliver Of the silver line that lighted my yesterdays Step right up, to see the world spin on my fingertips! Yeah! Godspeed to you in everything you do And safe returns again Godspeed to you wherever you may go And hold your heading

Dawn’s breaking Engines are failing Too far in Into Sol we’re reeling Someone show me the way out of here Don’t wait, don’t run, just fly Say you will shade me from summers too sheer, too bright Yea, so it all began In clear skies And we flew with the wind And let us be carried away from somewhere I could never live The irony of Icarus, of iron shields in diamond days A platitude of watchers in the wings Stay what we learn today, lest we are mislaid; displaced And so our plight began In clear skies Say that you’ll shade me from summers too sheer and much too bright Some day, in merry months of May, there we may meet again In clear skies

(Thalassa, A.D. 3865) Far away from old, earthly shores We’re migrant souls without a home Kind hearts caught in the cold Vagrants in the vastness of the void Rowing out from shore, I wish that I could linger The sea knows but forgives my sins And I know beyond recall My days will see me ache for somewhere I once soared In a different sky Tarna’s sand is warm between my toes As perfect days are drawing to their close If I have to sleep, I don’t want to wake For I know now even the sky has an end And I don’t want to wait, for centuries or longer Waiting for my life to begin And I'm wondering what for I am to remember somewhere I lived more, to the end of my days At times it’s more than I can bear This weary, star-crossed voyager with nothing more to share Than I did with you (Sagan 2, A.D. 4135) And I so longed for somewhere I could be free A home where I could hear the music of the spheres And I waited for someone I could believe And found her in a place I had to leave And I'm wondering what for I had to journey onward, when paradise was warm beneath my tread And I’ll live forevermore, dying to remember somewhere I lived more On the other side of the sky And now I trudge a foreign shore, trying to move forward For better or for worse, and the future of our kind

(Narrator:) And so we begin with another tragedienne’s tale In Rome’s pleasant land Where summer saw the rains And her flowers green wilted in the gale (Persephone:) And I'm a world away (Hermes:) For you failed to wake, my love (Persephone:) And I was led astray (Hermes:) Whoever said that this life could last? (Persephone:) And I am so afraid (Hermes:) But this could’ve been our heaven (Persephone:) And darkness took the day (Hermes:) And so I seek out the Stygian shore Charon my trusted friend of old The great collector of passages paid Then I land where Cerberus stands, open the way with sleight of hand This patron of thieves has some tricks up his sleeve Tartaros awaits! (Hermes:) I returned from the war in Heaven, but took some Hell with me ‘Till I am ashes I’ll writhe in the cross of a rose’s thorns The penalty divine for he who desired you (Persephone:) I pray, and call out your name along night’s Plutonian coast in the cold Won’t someone hear me plea for my life ‘fore my hope doth grow old (Hermes:) I returned from the war in Heaven, but took some Hell with me Are we running out of time? I reel on the razor’s edge, and have done all my days Seems it’s the way things must be (Persephone:) Sweetly I recall when you and I were one, and all the world was Spring Now you’re a world away, and time cannot allay And frost all things reigns (Hermes:) And you’re a world away (Persephone:) For all ways must part, my dear (Hermes:) It shouldn’t be this way (Persephone:) Whoever said that this love could last? (Hermes:) I’ll carry you away (Persephone:) Yea, this should be our heaven (Hermes:) We’ll fly unto the day (Hades:) And the flames will rise Out of the depth of my scorching soul Unto the sky (Hermes:) One step in the sunlight, one leap in the dark You’re worth all the ache I bear One step in the sunlight, a leap out of the dark On winged soles we fly (Hermes:) We returned from the war in Heaven, but took some Hell with us Yet from our ashes we rise I’d walk from the mortal land to somewhere far beyond In quest for merely your smile We’re all on our way to Heaven, from lives contrived and short For we all run out of time And we fly along to the distant end of how far it may bear us ‘Neath only bluest of skies

The Vehement Summer: We robbed the sand of time by glint of smiling moonlight That sunk us in its cheery cellar and buried us in turn Where churn the wicked and wild; the steady, fast and slight By brightly burning chestnut eyes that sightless ‘I’s do spurn The Frugal Autumn: We crawl through dungeons dark and dreadful In quest for seas of dull desire The ocean forgiving of our long remembered vice The Vehement Summer: Caught climbing the ramparts of heavens denied Parapets of songs we wore and woes we sang The Frugal Autumn: The gust of time but blew us yonder How sweet still the Amontillado’s taste When walled in by the pressing ages And for fabled forgiveness, look you to the sky To pantheons past, lost to wind and war On our way to golden fields, to castles in white We must’ve strayed, can’t find the way anymore Locked outside the door We grow old before our time For Time’s impatient of our folly And hearts beat only briefly Through blunt and bloodied rhymes The Vehement Summer: Regal are not merely crownèd brows As happy pawns ‘fore kings unthroned may stand unbowed and proud And we shall suffer the smallest share The shortest thread that Clotho spun Engines failing in the sun And we tread the field of ghosts Abandoned long before our time By webbed foot or sandal Or cloven hoofs of beasts of war The Frugal Autumn: We may weather the winter, or it may weather us ‘Til the bulwarks burst and we’re shut in by the sea Day to day we pit ourselves ‘gainst the hum-drum of the day As the hours are wrest from our hands Too soon the end impends The gust of time but blew us yonder How sweet still the Amontillado’s taste When walled in by depressing ages? The Vehement Summer: And we are always “almost there” Idle the words we play upon Angels flying in the sun And we tread the field of ghosts Abandoned long before our time By bannerman and squire And muddy tracks of engines stalled The Frugal Autumn: For as nesting birds in snowy white In whiteout winds that sap their sight Running mares on amber planes Or cautious hares that dread the chase Cow’ring low before the gun We scamper heedless into the long run

Part 1: Soldiers and Vagabonds And when we return from heavens grey Valiant or victorious, triumphant and tired Warriors wary of a gathering storm What of the roads not taken Did they lead us away from harm? May we remain unshaken through futile fury or a peddler’s charm? Here we are – soldiers and vagabonds, on quests for empathy And we move in awkward symmetries Where we are beggars and bon vivants Youthful eyes may see The good in you and me Part 2: Heroes and Siren Songs Drunk on the wine of tribulation Of tiring flights in olden fancy From henchmen hidden in ticking thickets, Time’s retort And so we look to the future Filled with sound and feral rage Ecstasies of ancient afterlives in the thick of Time Here we are – soldiers and vagabonds, in quest for great glory And we move in old mythologies Where we are heroes and siren songs It leaves me mesmerized Olympus is our prize Part 3: Miasma and Mirage Remember the way we were In olden gusts of time; we’d all the world to see As I recall the way it used to be The fire unrefrained; now old souls in twain Part 4: The Fire Unrefrained (instrumental) Part 5: Dust and Bone Buried in a land unknown It’s a fate that awaits us all, my friend Was all that came to pass really worth the time? We sing No one may know why We sing Ere we’re cold as a stone No way out, you’re along for the ride Do all good things come to an end for reasons we don’t know? Time remains a mystery And leaves us all alone in the end For in the long run, all we’re left are dust and bone So we sing No one may know why We sing Ere we’re cold as a stone We sing Our lives are but loaned But we sing From our thrones we’re thrown Part 6: Echoes and Elegies And so we return from heavens grey Vile and vilified, torrid and tragic The warrior weary from the weight of war Remember the way you were Wondrous as a child A grace in you that died Here we are – soldiers and vagabonds, in search of sympathy And we’re left but frightful effigies Here we are – echoes and elegies Miasma and mirage A tired, old adage Part 7: Reprise and Epilogue We returned from heaven’s grey Terrified and tired Lost in the midst of time, the raging surf that swept us away Here we are – vagrants and vagabonds And we are left alone to gather what remains of our thoughts Here we are – Time’s reluctant detainees Down on our knees Begging help me, please ‘Cause we’re in it for the long run And there’s no backing down No batting down the hatches No unending renown
