Contagion of Despair
I have a hidden enemy I know not their name Nor do I their goal But their methods become all too clear Every single day The hypocrisy, fearmongering and lies Increase seemingly exponentially Spiralling into a hurricane Yet outside these four walls The stories they portray do not ring true Who benefits from this situation? Who thrives on human misery? My enemy seeks to break down my psyche And not just mine alone They spread chaos, fear and despair Amongst the populace The contagion of despair A virus spreading through the race Is this a cycle or a spiral? The angle is not clear To see with my own eyes

You're dressed to impress And looking your best 10,000 eyes stare At your grace and glamour Proud and confident Important and powerful Leading all eyes forward As you stride towards the stage For you this is empowerment But they only feel powerful When another of their insecurities Is cast into the void Nobody asked your opinion They just took it all away Not just the pride and confidence But your very existence They fight to make you equal But not equal in worth Only anothеr duplicate Of their strict ideal You wеre empowered Now just shattered Broken and beaten You walk alone into the night Nothing remains to rebuild Your tower of strength There were always worse options Now that's all that's left As the contagion of despair Seeps in from the other world I hold a silent vigil For another victim of my enemy 'No empowerment by restricted choice'

Lies Damned lies And statistics, moulded to each agenda Cherry picking data that states what you wish to hear It's not what you said but what you didn't say Facts without context are meaningless Lie to confuse and separate Breed weakness and fear To spread this disease This contagion of despair There is truth to be found In every story that you hear You have senses use them Be analytical. Be critical! My enemy deflects from itself By prеsenting a bigger target No mattеr what you believe They will find someone to undermine you Overgeneralisation, oversimplification Painting by broad strokes Everyone must be categorised To make them a focal point for hate Are we a species of masochists? Why do we seek to be enraged? I tried to turn it off, to tune it out But too many friends are already enraptured Soon I will have no choice But to tune them out as well

At one time one would be judged by Their net impact on the overall sum of human happiness This is an existential threat to my enemy Happiness their poison, they would starve And so, the charitable, who lived like modern christs Are having their bastard spawns revealed Before being crucified alongside their god To again deflect our eyes from the truth One night of impropriety Now far outwеighs The feeding of the starving masses My еnemy, sows these seeds of doubt Then assures us to keep faith Remember the good of our fallen idol So that a small trickle flows Enough to keep the starving starving (Starving starving starving starving) The dead cannot despair An allegation is a sentence Handed down by the mob No burden of proof Only ostracisation

I no longer speak For words are only twisted and misunderstood And argued down by the many Who possess agendas but not facts Lately, I do not even observe As doing so I am left no alternative But to sink into despair At what we have become What is right? Nothing is right Taken by the right Stripping us of health and well-being Now we pay to stay alive On the one side Petulant trolls and bigots And against them The outraged and offended Neither achieves a single thing Nothing detrimental to their foe Just further inconvenience and sadness For the rational man What is left? Nothing is left Taken by the left Our right to speak, to joke Or step outside the diverging lines Sometimes I cannot blame my enemy When such atrocities against the will Are perpetuated by those I know are real Are they influenced or influencers? Why are these already over-loud voices Amplified and fuelled? The leeches need new content To draw the naive in To further the spread of misery The contagion of despair We've lost the middle ground Only extremists remain And those who are sane Are fighting a losing battle My enemy paints you as my enemy

My enemy sold its soul many years ago Setting their leeches upon those that have what they do not The ability to create beauty and meaning in this world Instead they just make more sadness and emptiness for them to fill Why is there a need for these virtues? When the bland and soulless can be Elevated equal or above By any with adequate means All we have created Thе total sum of arts and knowledge Now within our grasp But tainted by association With thе vacuous and empty headed creations of liars "You are the ruiner of all things good" "Life is pain, anybody who says differently is selling something."

Sometimes, I have cried so hard my eyes have been raw for days What shoulder then presents itself? Sometimes, it feels that I have seven billion enemies So who then can I turn to? Sometimes, the sense of loss is so great that I am torn apart How did I become so alone? Have I finally succumbed To the contagion of despair? As each day passes the struggle increases To find the angle by which thе spiral Looks to be a circle Once I sat abovе it; from there it was easy But now, I drift amidst it, this goal becomes impossible And unless this inertia can be reversed The circle may only reappear when viewed from below By then, I fear it is too late Deep in the pit of despair I have caught Has the hand of my enemy been revealed? Was it us or them? Allies or adversaries? Or the lovers of violence in the name of god? All becomes clear. Not just in gods name There was never anyone behind the crystal liquid Just the universe, rearranging the quantum bits It was always a spiral. Entropy will prevail As all rational thought deserts me My enemy is victorious As I ramble on To these padded walls Secure in the knowledge that I have worked it all out The contagion of despair So insidious a disease Even the strong of will Eventually fall
