The Sword and the Cross

The knights ride out From the castle above your homes Clad in shining armor Descend to the plain below We sack the town, burn it down We trample those who stand And by the blade, I subjugate The people of this land Now I issue my command Thou shall toil upon the soil And I shall reap reward By right of might I crown myself The nobility of the sword The sword, the sword I bring the sword The sword and the cross The sword and the cross We give you a choice We bring you the word To worship our God Or you will meet yours Now the sword has struck I raise up the cross The high sermons preach How I was chosen by God Despair from your wretched lives Fall to your knees You worship at your shrines You offer those prayers to me Now I issue this decree From the depths of my dungeons What horrors await To the spires of my cathedrals And the songs of holy saints I bring the sword The sword and the cross The sword and The sword and the cross Tomorrow, a red dawn The crusade marches on And so in the present as it was in the past My castles of stone, now steel and glass I call this tradition, it is my birthright Now bend the knee, peasant, get out of my sight Once I brought the sword And still I am thy Lord My fathers brought the sword Yet I remain thy Lord Your children yet unborn My sons shall be their Lords When my bones lay below the hill It makes no difference, I own you still Onward forever, until this earth dies The cross and the sword burnt into the sky

I walk decaying cities of a world upon the brink I watch the earthly creatures one by one become extinct As I run back and forth to keep a roof above my head No hope for tomorrow, the future is dead That empty sinking feeling Deep in the soul No a better kind of world is not possible It cannot be done, beyond my control No a better kind of world is not possible I keep myself distracted by staring at a screen My mind always racing, no longer I dream I swallow prescriptions cause the problem is me My moods far more stable, no longer do I dream of another world I race on ahead as if I don't know My face cracks a smile but the grin is hollow Cause I've got to get used to this reality Expect nothing different from the powers that be That empty sinking feeling Deep in the soul No a better kind of world is not possible It cannot be done, beyond my control A better kind of world is not possible I don't think a change is something I'll live to see I'm far more realistic, no longer I dream I swallow my drugs to silence a scream I keep myself sedated, no longer do I dream of another world Each day the same as the previous one And each day I stay on the grind as I run To that mass burial plot, where I'll surely be missed No, the world I imagine, could never exist That empty sinking feeling Deep in the soul No a better kind of world is not possible It cannot be done, beyond my control A better kind of world is not possible I'm far too sedated to utter a scream But no, no longer, no longer do I dream No longer do I dream No longer do I dream of another world
